Mr. Rodgers v. Donkey Kong

Filed under: video — ted @ 3:33 pm

In this clip from a 1983 Mr. Rodgers show, an adorable kid in an awesome sweater patiently and expertly explains the Donkey Kong arcade game to Mr. Rodgers, who is wearing an equally fine piece of clothing. Mr. Rodgers wants to play, but instead of patiently waiting his turn, he starts reaching across and jiggling the joystick like a complete novice — right after the kid has grabbed the hammer and is ready to smash some barrels. Clearly, the kid loses his turn, because the maintenance man, Keith, interrupts them and opens the machine to get the kid’s quarters out. Then we get to see the inside of the machine, which is pretty cool.

Also: I love this “Bowmaster” game, and I think you will too.
